MEXICO — The pill responsible for reinvigorating the sex lives of thousands could also help give a young boy a chance at a normal life.

Jose Serrano, 10, of Juarez, Mexico has an enormous tumor on his neck that stretches across his chest, inhibits his movement and threatens his life. The Daily Mail reports that an important part of Serrano’s treatment is taking Viagra, which has been shown to reduce the size of tumors in children. The drug is most commonly prescribed to treat impotence.

The goal is to get the tumor down to a size at which it can be safely operated on and removed. Time is of the essence because the growth forms cysts, some of which are on his lungs and close to his windpipe, the Daily Mail reports.
