LEBANON, Maine — Rescue personnel in this small town were busy Monday dealing with two separate accidents five hours apart.
Lebanon Rescue Assistant Chief Jason Cole said the first crash was reported on Route 111 shortly after noon.
A Chevy Cavalier driven by an 18-year-old Lebanon woman apparently did not slow down when a dump truck had slowed to turn into a sand pit, according to Cole. Other vehicles behind the dump truck had slowed down.
The Cavalier subsequently rear-ended a Chevrolet pickup driven by a 33-year-old Lebanon man, Cole said.
The woman was transported to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester, N.H., for injuries considered serious but not life-threatening, while the man was not injured, Cole said. The woman’s cavalier was demolished.
Later Monday, at 5:45 p.m., crews responded to another crash at the intersection of Route 11 and Lower Middle Road.
A westbound Toyota driven by a 30-year-old Old Orchard Beach woman had tried to pass a Jeep driven by a 36-year-old Sanford woman when the two vehicles collided. Cole said the Jeep was stopped to turn left onto Lower Middle Road.
The Jeep’s driver was ejected, but Cole said rescue crews and state troopers were nearby and were on the scene within two minutes of the accident happening.
Both drivers were taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford for treatment of injuries considered serious but not life-threatening, Cole said. Traffic was reduced to one lane for about an hour while crews cleaned up the scene.
