MELBOURNE, Australia — Weeks after three people were killed and dozens were injured when a suspect drove a vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians, paramedics who responded to the scene are thanking the community for their support.

The Jan. 20 attack prompted responders and bystanders to provide emergency care to those injured, reported ABC.

“The cooperation and kindness that was extended by members of the public to total strangers was really quite exceptional,” Ambulance Victoria personnel said in a video.

The company thanked bystanders for helping perform CPR and assisting paramedics with loading patients into ambulances.

“Wherever I looked and there was someone injured, they weren’t on their own, they had people with them,” a paramedic said in the video.

Personnel said during the incident, victims were accompanied by a bystander who was performing aid or simply offering comfort.

“Thank you, you helped us when we needed your help and we didn’t have to ask you were just there.”

The suspect, 26-year-old Dimitrious Gargasoulas, has been charged with murder. He is expected to appear in court in August.
