WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Police continue to investigate a three-car crash that left a paramedic dead and two other motorists injured.

Donavan Alden, an AMR paramedic, was heading to work when the crash happened Sunday, police said. The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. under the railroad overpass on New Britain Avenue, east of New Park Avenue, they said.

According to Capt. Jeff Rose, Alden, 32, of Avon was driving a 2006 Mini Cooper east on New Britain Avenue when a westbound 2008 Subaru Legacy driven by Karen Torres, 33, of New Britain crossed the double yellow lines. The cars crashed head-on, he said.

A 2009 Nissan Maxima being driven by Zeeshan Rashid, 33, of Newington behind Alden crashed into the back of the Mini-Cooper.

Torres was severely injured and is being treated at Hartford Hospital. Rashid also is being treated at Hartford Hospital, police said.

New Britain Avenue was closed until about 2:30 a.m. while officers gathered evidence.

“As you can imagine this tragedy is very hard on the AMR family,” Rose wrote in the release.
