ORLAND, Maine — An explosion inside a home in Orland, Maine early Friday left four people injured and the house destroyed, according to authorities.
Firefighters responded to a report of an explosion in the home on Soper Road around 9 a.m. and found four people injured and the house completely destroyed, the Orland Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
One of the four people was taken to the Orland Community Center baseball field to be flown to the hospital by medical helicopter, and the other three were driven by ambulance. While some of their injuries are serious, none appear to be life-threatening, according to the department’s post.
“We are extremely thankful for that,” the department’s post said.
Within minutes of firefighters’ arrival, the house became heavily engulfed in flames, and the blaze threatened to spread to two more buildings and a truck. Help was requested from fire departments in other Maine communities, including Bucksport, Castine, Dedham, Ellsworth and Penobscot, according to the department’s post.
The threatened buildings were saved, and after several hours, the fire was extinguished, the department’s post detailed.
“We appreciate all of the help our mutual aid partners provided today. The teamwork and cooperation was top notch,” the department said in its post.
Investigators from the Maine Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to investigate the cause of the fire, according to the department’s post.
