RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A former EMT landed the role of co-host on an upcoming Discovery Channel show after seeing the opening on a Facebook page.

Riverhead News-Review reported that Russell Holmes saw a post seeking a “right-hand man” on Facebook by Richard Rawlings, star of “Fast N’ Loud.” He applied online.

Two weeks later, he received a call for an interview and flew to Los Angeles for a screen test. Seventeen months later, Holmes is set to star alongside Rawlings as his co-host on “Garage Rehab.”

“It’s just amazing how this has occurred,” Holmes said. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would end up being on a TV show, let alone the Discovery Channel, let alone with someone like Richard Rawlings.”

Holmes said he and Rawlings instantly developed chemistry.

“He tells everybody he and I are the same person. I said, yeah, except you have a lot more zeroes in your bank account than I do,” Holmes joked. “But we have such a great dynamic when we work together.”

The show follows Holmes and Rawlings as they travel to different automotive garages and remodel them.

“I don’t know what I’m doing until the minute I step my foot in that shop,” Holmes said. “I go in there and I do the full design. I say, ‘I’m going to take this wall out, I’m going to put the lift here, I’m going to put the air compressor here.’”

“Garage Rehab” will premiere on the Discovery Channel in late August.
