Off-duty Miss. EMT saves 5 in car crash

The SUV flipped four times after the driver tried to swerve from a deer

JACKSON, Miss. — An off-duty EMT helped rescue five young adults involved in a car crash Sunday morning.

WLOX reported that Jonnequia Cavett, a certified firefighter-EMT with the American National Guard, was driving by at the time and called 911.

Cavett stopped and got out of her vehicle to help the victims. Their ages ranged from 19 to 22-years-old.

The SUV flipped four times after the driver tried to swerve from a deer, according to the report.

“Everything was flooding on me because I was trained to be a first responder, and I’m like should I stop? What should I do?” Cavett said. “And when I got out the kids had gashes everywhere. It was just really devastating to see young people my age in a bad car wreck like that.”

The condition of each accident victim was unknown at the time, according to the report.
