AURORA, Colo. — When special weapons and tactics or a SWAT team is involved, the situation is typically very serious. SWAT officers are trained to respond to armed barricaded suspects, high risk warrants or situations where more than a patrol officer’s presence is needed.
In Aurora, the SWAT team has recently been training with six paramedics, a unit that the Police Department calls Tactical Emergency Medic Service or TEMS.
“With the paramedics integrated with the SWAT team we’re able to meet any emergency medical condition that presents itself,” said Kevin Waters, Aurora Fire EMS Bureau Manager.
