The International Association of EMS Chiefs (IAEMSC) will be featuring state and federal elected officials at the 2011 Annual EMS Leadership Summit to be held in Washington, DC. Their focus will be “EMS Advocacy from the Other Side of the Table” and provide a perspective of how the emergency medical services profession is viewed by both a state senator and United States Senator.
- Colorado State Senator John Morse served 14 years as a paramedic, 13 years as a police officer and police chief before being elected to the state senate in November 2006 to represent Senate District 11 in the Colorado Springs area.
- United State Senator Chris Coons was elected to the Senate in November 2010 to represent Delaware after serving 4 years as the New Castle County Council President and 6 years as the New Castle County Executive. He currently serves on the Foreign Relations, Judiciary, Energy and Budget committees in the 112th Congress.
“This will be a unique opportunity for EMS chiefs to hear how their agencies and the EMS profession are perceived by their elected officials”, said IAEMSC President Lawrence E. Tan. “More importantly, they will hear first-hand how they can more effectively interact with key elected officials in their role as advocates for the EMS profession.”
The IAEMSC Leadership Summit is intended for middle and senior leaders in EMS organizations. The summit includes attendees from across the United States as well as from the international EMS community.
