2006 California Response & Recovery Conference
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has hosted two workshops – one in southern California, October 11-12, and one in northern California, October 16-17 – covering the essentials of emergency response and recovery.
The conferences were designed specifically for transit managers, port authorities and rail systems, transportation officials, city and county emergency managers, first responders, and federal agencies with critical incident responsibilities.
The morning for each day of the workshops focused on lessons learned from recent emergency events in California and elsewhere, while the afternoons included tabletop exercises using possible California disaster scenarios. The result was a more complete assessment of the state’s response plans and capabilities as it relates to mobility.
Conference organizers are now developing an After Action Report addressing key conference outcomes, and will create standard guidelines for transportation emergency planning ensuring a unified all-hazards approach to transportation across jurisdictions throughout California.
The Federal Highway Administration funded this initiative. Joining the host Caltrans as event co-sponsors were the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), the California Governor’s Office of Homeland Security (OHS), the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the California Utilities Emergency Association (CUEA), the California Transit Association (CTA), the California Association of Coordinated Transportation (CalACT), the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), and the Sacramento Association of Governments (SACOG).
