RICHMOND, Vt. — An off-duty Richmond Rescue EMT was killed Thursday in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 in Richmond.
Brendon Cousino, 30, was “heavily entrapped” in his car and had no pulse when emergency crews arrived, the Burlington Free Press reports .
He was struck by another vehicle driven by Karri Benoir, 23, who crossed the grass median on the highway. Benoir’s car was airborne before hitting Cousino’s, and was then hit by a pickup truck. Benoir was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

Richmond Rescue’s Facebook post describes Cousino as “the kind of person who put new members at ease instantly and was always there for you with a kind word.”
“Over his lifetime Brendon saved countless lives and donated thousands of hours to the Vermont EMS community,” the post continues.
Cousino is survived by his wife and three daughters.
