Medical helicopter crashes; pilot killed

The pilot was about to land at a Mo. hospital to pickup the medical crew; cause of crash under investigation

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The pilot of a medical helicopter died late Friday in a crash near Saint Louis University Hospital. The St. Louis Fire Department reports that the pilot was the only person aboard.

The copter was heading from the ARCH Air Medical Services base along I-64 to the hospital to pick up a crew when it went down around 11:00pm near Spring Avenue and Rutger Street.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are on the scene Saturday morning. The cause of the crash had not been determined.
