CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was arrested Saturday in suburban Forest Park and charged with four counts of aggravated battery, police said Sunday night.

The officer, who was off-duty at the time and not immediately identified, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and two counts of aggravated battery to a paramedic, said Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond. The officer remains in the custody of Forest Park police and has been relieved of his duties as a Chicago police officer, Bond said.

The officer was arrested for a disturbance at a restaurant in Forest Park, Bond said via e-mail. She did not provide more details.

Forest Park police declined to comment on the incident Sunday night. Independent Police Review Authority chief Ilana Rosenzweig said her office was investigating the incident but declined to comment further.

In a statement, new Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said, “The Chicago Police Department has zero tolerance for any officer who violates the professional integrity of this department.”
