Chicago paramedic prevents woman from jumping to death

CHICAGO — A woman is listed in stable condition after a paramedic convinced her not to jump six stories early Thursday morning.

Chicago Fire Department paramedic Tom Murphy was at the fire station at 259 N. Columbus Dr. about 6:30 a.m. when a taxi driver drove to the station and said a woman was going to jump from her apartment, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight.

Murphy drove to the apartment, where he found the woman on the street threatening to jump to the lower street level, six stories below, Knight said.
