LONDON — Thieves made off with thousands of pounds worth of life-saving equipment and drugs yesterday while an NHS paramedic was treating a patient.
The bag, which contained an ultra-sound scanner and a fibre-optic probe together worth more than £4,000, was stolen on Ross Road in Wallington, Croydon, as a medic dealt with the patient’s dislocated shoulder.
London Ambulance Service said the callous thieves struck shortly after 10am on Sunday, leaving one of their advanced paramedics - specialists with more than 10 year experience who attend acute call-outs such as cardiac arrests - without essential equipment for about four hours. No one saw the bag disappear.
