Annual award recognizes excellence in trauma-related research; paper based on racial disparities and safety concerns around prehospital analgesia for children with long bone fractures
AUSTIN, Texas – ESO, the leading data and software company serving emergency medical services (EMS), fire departments, hospitals, and state EMS/Trauma offices, today announced Garrett D. Hall, BSN, RN, CSTR, CAISS, Director of Hospital and Registry Programs at ESO, received the prestigious Joseph J. Tepas, MD Award at the seventh annual meeting of the Pediatric Trauma Society.
The research identified racial disparities and safety concerns in prehospital analgesia for children with long bone fractures. In the prehospital setting, Black children are 44 percent less likely to receive pain medication when compared to white children. The research also identified that 20 percent of children did not have a weight in kilograms recorded before analgesia administration.
Established in 2016, the Joseph J. Tepas, MD Award is presented to the authors who demonstrate excellence in trauma related research and best exemplifies Dr. Tepas’ commitment to education and research. The non-physician award recognizes work in nursing, allied health, or other areas of trauma research.
“This is a tremendous honor for Garrett and the entire ESO team as we bring data to the forefront of critical conversations that will improve patient outcomes,” said Dr. Brent Myers, Chief Medical Officer for ESO. “Their leadership and commitment to developing an evidence-based patient registry platform and practice at ESO will truly move the industry forward.”
