Hypopnea is defined as shallow breathing less than 0.5 liters in an adult and bradypnea is defined as low respiratory rate less than 12 breaths per minute. The shape and morphology of the capnogram is abnormal with short, non-plateauing waveform and slow respiratory rate often this is followed by a higher concentration of CO2 when a deep breath is taken.
