SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — A 15-month-old girl was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.
Devon Justine Greer was discovered slumped over and unresponsive in her car seat at about 4 p.m. while taking a nap at a family friend’s house. She was not breathing, and those who found her initiated CPR and called 911.
Utah County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medical personnel with the Saratoga Springs Fire Department arrived at the scene soon after and continued CPR for 40 minutes. Greer was then life-flighted to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
The baby’s body will undergo an autopsy in the State Medical Examiner’s lab in an attempt to determine the cause of death.
There is no evidence of foul play, said Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon. He noted the irony that KSL News Radio ran a story earlier Friday about the dangers of leaving infants to take naps in their car seats.
“It’s possible that her position in the car seat may have contributed to her death, but that’s uncertain,” he said.
