WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio — When a routine trip to grab a meal turned into an emergency situation, a local man didn’t hesitate to act.
Tyler Davis, 20, of West Carrollton, was walking to the West Carrolton McDonald’s in May when he noticed something was amiss.
“We saw a bunch of people crowded around a car, and there was a woman lying there unconscious,” he said. “I checked her pulse, and I didn’t feel anything, so I started chest compressions. She was blue in the face.”
Davis tended to the woman until paramedics arrived on the scene.
He restored her pulse and paramedics were able to revive her.
Davis is an aspiring firefighter, who had recently completed a fire certificate and was attending EMT class.
Capt. Andy Shepherd of the West Carrollton Fire Department, who was in charge of the paramedic team which responded, commended Davis.
“The young man did perform CPR prior to our arrival and the outcome of the call was favorable. ... The young man did a great job to react appropriately to the situation.”
His aunt, Marcy Avant, also had praise for Davis.
“He’s being extremely humble about the whole situation, but in my opinion, not many 20-year-olds would dive into action like he did,” she said.
Davis said the lessons he learned were invaluable, and did not classify himself a hero.
“It was just like class,” Davis said. “The adrenaline kicks in, and you just do what you have to do. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
