HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Washington County judge has dismissed three defendants from a lawsuit alleging that a feud between
emergency workers in Smithsburg contributed to the deaths of a firefighter and her unborn child.
The dismissal was granted for the Washington County Commissioners, the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and a county dispatcher
Volunteer firefighter Christina Hess died in 2004 from pregnancy complications.
Her mother and fiance’ claim in their lawsuit that bad feelings between Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services and the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Company slowed the response to the woman’s emergency medical condition.
The remaining defendants include Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services, a former ambulance chief, a dispatcher and two medics.
