Chicago paramedic PAC supports mayoral candidate

Challenger to Mayor Emanuel promises more ambulances, EMS commissioner, and testing for paramedic officer position receives financial donation

CHICAGO — Mayoral challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia is promising to bolster Chicago’s fleet of 75 advanced life support ambulances, create an emergency medical services commissioner on par with the fire commissioner and make the job of paramedic officer a tested position.

On Wednesday, a newly formed political action committee created by roughly 100 paramedics liked what it heard from Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s strongest challenger.

The paramedic PAC endorsed Garcia, handed him a $5,000 check and pledged to work the precincts for him. They accused Emanuel of giving short-shrift to emergency medical service that dominate calls for service handled by the Chicago Fire Department.
