U.S. Navy Implements APCO Institute EMD

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The U.S. Naval Station - Mayport, located in Mayport, Fla., has become the newest U.S. Military Operation to implement the APCO Institute Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program.

The Naval Station Emergency Communications Center (ECC) provides law enforcement, fire service, HAZMAT and emergency medical service (EMS) dispatch services for Naval Station - Mayport, which is the third largest Naval facility in the continental U.S. and is the home of the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy. In 2006, ECC will be adding the same dispatch services for U.S. Naval Air Station - Jacksonville, located in Jacksonville, Fla. This expansion is predicted to significantly increase their current roster of 10 telecommunicators and one dispatch supervisor.

The APCO Institute EMD Program, based on EMD Guidecards and software, is a systematic way to manage EMS resources in an organized and effective manner and to provide medical assistance to callers, when needed, until medically trained field response units arrive at the scene.

“The APCO Institute wants to congratulate the U.S. Naval Station - Mayport on their implementation and is proud to assist them in protecting the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces,” APCO Institute Director Candice Solie said.
