DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In December, the Seymour Police Department in Seymour, Ind. became the latest Communications Center to implement the APCO Institute Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program.
Seymour Police Department provides fire and law enforcement dispatch services to the City of Seymour, Ind. (population 25,000). The staff of 10 telecommunicators handles an annual call volume of approximately 18,000 calls.
“The Seymour Police Department is very happy to be a part of the APCO EMD program,” said Seymour Police Department EMD Manager Toby Ortman. “APCO has proved to be the best program out there.”
The APCO Institute EMD Program, based on EMD Guidecards and software, is a systematic way to manage emergency medical services (EMS) resources in an organized and effective manner and to provide medical assistance to callers, when needed, until medically trained field response units arrive at the scene.
“The APCO Institute is happy to welcome Seymour Police Department as an EMD User Agency and looks forward to working with their staff to provide EMD services to their jurisdiction and the citizens they protect,” APCO Institute Director Candice Solie said.
