Orange County Sheriff’s Department Goes Mobile with NetMotion Mobility XE
Investigators and deputies in patrol cars access records in real time; department replaces competitive product
Seattle, WA - NetMotion Wireless Inc., the industry-leading provider of mobility management solutions, announced today that the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) has selected and deployed NetMotion Mobility XE™ for use by its investigative division. Using Mobility XE, the California agency’s 150 investigative officers will gain reliable and seamless wireless access to critical law enforcement applications and databases over any networks they use or traverse. In addition, Mobility XE, which replaces another vendor’s product, will be deployed in 200 patrol cars by the end of this month.
“Mobility XE from NetMotion Wireless has performed as advertised and exactly as we expected,” said Ed Lee, project manager for Information Systems at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “Now deputies can perform their jobs with greater flexibility and efficiency.”
The Investigative Unit Implementation
The OCSD Investigations Division is responsible for solving some of the most serious crimes in Orange County, an area that includes Buena Park, Orange, Santa Ana, The Canyons, Tustin, Yorba Linda, and Anaheim. The division investigates homicides, sex crimes, vice and gang activity, and economic crimes, in addition to conducting general investigations. The large geographic area and severity of crimes the investigators cover necessitates easy-to-use, continuous access to essential, real-time criminal information. The investigators required a mobility management solution that provides seamless access to multiple data networks, key applications, and criminal databases.
With NetMotion Mobility XE, investigators can now perform critical tasks such as real-time justice system queries into criminal history, local OCSD databases, and jail information, as well as state and federal databases. They also have access to other commonly used computer applications, including e-mail, the OCSD intranet, Internet sites, and shared network-based documents. Using their new wireless data solution, investigators can communicate quickly with judges, obtain an arrest or search warrant, or request backup support from other sheriff’s personnel while monitoring the site of suspected criminal activity.
“NetMotion Wireless has developed a stellar reputation for providing the best mobility management solution available today—and for creating successful mobile computing deployments where other vendors have failed,” said Andy Willett, SVP, Sales & Marketing for NetMotion Wireless. “We’re proud to add the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to the nearly 600 organizational customers NetMotion Wireless serves.”
