NetMotion Wireless Launches Mobility XE for Large Enterprise Mobile Computing Deployments
Highly scalable software supports deployment of mission-critical applications over wireless networks—no customer development required
Seattle - NetMotion® Wireless Inc., the market leader in mobility management software, today announced commercial availability of NetMotion Mobility XE™, the latest version of its award-winning software. Created to meet the demands of law enforcement interoperabilty, Mobility XE represents a new mobility management platform for the company. Specifically, the release features server pooling, load balancing, automated failover and a Mobility Management Console that enables web-based access to full management functionality.
“Most IT managers have assumed that real-time connectivity over wireless networks requires some pretty significant application development and considerable performance trade-offs,” said Steve Cullen, CEO of NetMotion Wireless. “So, our beta customers were understandably enthusiastic when they discovered that Mobility XE requires no development to provide wireless access to legacy applications like Siebel CRM, even over wide area wireless networks, and that we improve the performance of those networks by as much as 100 percent.”
In a testament to the quality and market value of Mobility XE, many of the more than 90 organizations that participated in the Mobility XE beta program have already decided to purchase the software.
“NetMotion Wireless has been thinking about the challenges of making applications mobile for a very long time,” said Craig J. Mathias, a principal with the wireless advisory firm Farpoint Group (Ashland, MA). “The evolution of their thinking realized in Mobility XE includes a broad range of functions essential to enterprise-class mobile application deployment.”
Introducing Mobility XE
Though Mobility XE has been upgraded to accommodate the most demanding use, the platform remains true to its heritage: Installation is quick and easy, and no changes to applications or networks are required. This version continues to provide persistent access to mission-critical legacy applications, such as Siebel CRM, so they work reliably over wireless networks. Mobility XE also addresses critical concerns regarding network security, application performance and reliability, intermittent network coverage, and effective management of multi-network mobile computing deployments.
“Marshfield Clinic supports a very demanding mobile computing environment spanning 42 clinical centers and involving hundreds of clinicians and devices,” said Tom Berg, director of Clinical Information Services and a Mobility XE beta tester. “In Mobility XE, NetMotion Wireless has created a world-class mobile computing platform that addresses issues of deployment scalability and management that are essential for mobile computing deployments of significant size.”
Mobility XE strengthens the company’s mobility management platform by providing:
- Improved scalability. Through the creation of server pools and use of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to store settings, Mobility XE scales for deployments that support thousands of mobile workers. Enterprises can easily add server capacity without disrupting system services.
- Constant reliability. New load balancing and automated failover capabilities automatically distribute concurrent mobile device connections across a pool of servers based on their current load and capacity. The system also distributes Mobility client connections across the server pool to optimize available resources based on memory, network, and CPU usage.
- Centralized management. A new Mobility Console provides an intuitive interface via any Web browser to:
- Manage server and client configuration
- Monitor server and client status
- Create and enforce policies using Policy Management
- Update and manage all associated software licenses
- Enhanced network performance. Mobility XE compression and link optimizations improve network performance by as much as 100 percent. When used in conjunction with third-party virtual private networks (VPNs), including Nortel or Cisco products, Mobility XE improves performance as measured in data throughput by up to 300 percent.
Mobility XE is available for both large enterprise and small/medium business (SMB) deployments. SMB pricing is $15,000 for server software and licenses for up to 100 devices (licenses for additional devices start at $140/each). Large enterprise pricing is $105,000 for an unlimited number of servers and licenses for up to 1,000 mobile devices (licensing for additional devices is $55/each).
