SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Innovative Trauma Care (ITC), a Canada-based early-stage medical device firm focused on developing point of injury solutions for trauma, first responder and military medicine applications, has been selected as an EMS World 2012 Top EMS Innovations Award winner for the ITClamp Hemorrhage Control System. ITC was among 20 honorees carefully chosen by EMS World Editorial Advisory Board Member Mike Smith, BS, MICP, in person at the EMS World Expo in October, 2012.
“I know of no other device with the versatility and capabilities of the ITClamp Hemorrhage Control System. Using a revered term that I reserve for the most unique devices, the ITClamp is a stunning example of elegant simplicity—almost immediate fluid-tight and airtight wound closure, with a 2" device,” said Smith in his article in the January issue of EMS World.
Innovative Trauma Care’s CEO and founder, Dr. Dennis Filips, said, “To be recognized as a leader in technology, engineering and creativity in the EMS industry is a phenomenal accomplishment. It’s great to hear this market is so receptive of our new technology as this device was designed and engineered with the first responder market in mind.”
The ITClamp was designed to address massive hemorrhage – a leading cause of death in traumatic injury – by controlling critical bleeding in seconds. The clamping device works by sealing the skin closed to create a temporary pool of blood under pressure, which forms a stable clot until the wound can be surgically repaired. The ITClamp is licensed for sale in Canada, and is pending regulatory approval in the US and Europe.
Incorporated in 2010 and based in Edmonton, Canada with its global commercialization operations headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Innovative Trauma Care is addressing unmet needs in the field of emergency medicine by developing, manufacturing, and commercializing point of injury solutions to treat common causes of preventable death in traumatic injury scenarios.
