Grove City, Ohio (November, 2014)Horton Emergency Vehicles was recently awarded 15 ambulances from Kootenai County Emergency Medical Services System.

The ambulances, built on Ford F-450 4x4 chassis with Horton 603 modules, will feature the best in customized safety offerings. Two sliding EVS seats, one on each side of the ambulance, will accompany five-point safety seatbelts in all module seating positions. The vehicles will also be outfitted with the Horton Occupant Protection system. Curtain and tube airbags deploy for rollover protection and progressive resistant foam provides advanced protection during head strikes. A Stryker Power-LOAD system and cot will aid responders during lifts and lowers, reducing the possibility of injury. Digital Ally’s fleet event recorder system will provide safety and transparency for patients, responders and citizens.

Emphasis on safety was one of the integral reasons that Kootenai County chose Horton to manufacture the vehicles. “We are very confident in the ability of Horton to build our new fleet,” said Chief Christopher Way. “Their specialties lie in customization and safety, so it was a perfect fit. We know they will work diligently to ensure the vehicles built for KCEMSS meet our safety standards and protect any crew member or patient in a Kootenai County ambulance.”

KCEMSS is fire-based ambulance service operating through a network of agencies to serve the Kootenai County, Idaho area. They will receive their fleet order in spring of 2015.
