VAN ALSTYNE, Texas — Van Alstyne Fire and EMS have gone green with a state-of-the-art ambulance. The vehicle’s new technology not only helps reduce the carbon footprint, but helps medics better care for patients and is more cost effective.
Medic 141 is the newest member of the fleet. Fire Chief Landon Smith says it has bright LED lights and touch screen technology and absorbs the energy to run them from two solar panels.
“As many times as the ambulances don’t come back for hours. So while their actually out there driving around the solar panels can charge the batteries and all of our equipment that we need,” Smith said.
