FALLS, N.Y. — A Falls man was charged Wednesday in connection with the theft of a Rural Metro ambulance from the 1800 block of Ontario Avenue.

Falls police said the Rural Metro crew was inside an Ontario Avenue home treating a patient about 4:20 p.m. when the ambulance was taken. Falls police were notified and began an immediate search, locating the unoccupied ambulance in the 2600 block of North Avenue within minutes.

A witness on North Avenue told police the man driving the ambulance had gone into a nearby home. Officers eventually made contact with the occupants of the home and were allowed inside to search. They located items stolen from the ambulance, including hypodermic needles. No controlled substances were taken.

Michael A. Dobson, age and address unavailable, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and obstructing emergency services. He was being held on $3,000 bail.

Police noted that the patient being treated on Ontario Avenue is fine and has no connection to the suspect.
