HARDIN COUNTY, Kentucky — Hardin County EMS on Thursday will launch a modified ambulance to serve both bariatric and critical care patients more efficiently.
The ambulance is equipped with a hydraulic lift and specialized stretcher aimed at better moving obese patients, as well as a ventilator system to properly transport critical patients who need breathing assistance, said Doug Finlay, Hardin County EMS public information officer.
Finlay said the goal of the modification is to reduce the potential for injury to paramedics who care for larger patients, while also improving patient comfort. He said the transport process also will be more respectful to patients because of these improvements.
