Car bumps into Pa. ambulance; driver faces DUI charge

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A Fayette County woman faces charges of driving under the influence after her vehicle drifted backward into an ambulance, police said.

The 51-year-old woman was driving a sport utility vehicle when it drifted backward into an ambulance 12:18 a.m. Tuesday in Uniontown at the intersection of routes 21 and 40, according to a city police report.

The woman and ambulance driver Lawrence Stiner were not hurt. Police said neither vehicle was damaged.

The woman said she had consumed two alcoholic beverages at 4 p.m. Monday and was on her way home after visiting her mother in the hospital, according to police. Police allege the woman smelled like alcohol, was unsteady on her feet and had red, watery eyes.

She was taken to Uniontown Hospital for a blood test. Charges are pending results of the test, according to the police report.
