SASKATOON, Canada — A woman who made off with an ambulance and smashed it into a power pole caused $180,000 in damage early New Year’s Day.

Saskatoon police say at 4:20 a.m., a woman took an ambulance from St. Paul’s Hospital. Hospital cameras captured her taking off in the vehicle.

MD Ambulance spokesman Troy Davies said paramedics were standing inside the hospital at the time, folding a stretcher. The front ambulance doors were locked but a back door was unlocked so the paramedics had access to equipment, Davies said.
