BLUE HILL, Maine — Peninsula Ambulance Corps has received a $5,000 grant from the Martin Foundation to buy defibrillators and cardiac monitors for each of the corps’ two ambulances.
The new lifesaving tools were purchased as part of PAC’s ongoing capital campaign to raise $450,000 for equipment upgrade and replacement.
Virginia “Dindy” Royster, a board member and development chair for the corps, said in a news release that the grant means “we have only $49,000 to go to complete the $450,000 campaign.”
The capital campaign is the first in PAC’s history.
The money raised so far has enabled PAC to buy two new ambulances to replace old vehicles whose engines were corroding and transmissions failing.
The Martin Family Foundation is a private charitable foundation founded in 1981 by Alfred and Mary Martin, summer residents of Blue Hill. The foundation has supported many local institutions with emphasis on education, health care organizations, and the arts.
PAC serves the communities of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Surry, and also provides paramedic backup to the nonprofit corps serving Castine, Deer Isle, Stonington and Orland.
Those interested in participating in the capital campaign can send donations to The Peninsula Ambulance Corps Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 834, Blue Hill 04614. For information, call PAC at 374-9955.
