GRAHAM COUNTY, Texas — A Graham County man was taken to a Tucson hospital Sunday night after he reportedly stabbed himself following an argument with a family member over the Super Bowl.

Ventura Hinojos Montez Jr., 41, was treated at the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a Tucson hospital for two stab wounds to his abdomen/chest area. According to Graham County Sheriff P.J. Allred, the stab wounds were self-inflicted.

Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence off Calle Montecito at about 9:37 p.m. on Sunday, after Montez got into an argument and threatened to stab himself with a pocketknife. The area is just north of Airport Road and slightly west of the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens cemetery. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident.

Deputies spoke to Montez at the scene and took the knife. He refused treatment from paramedics with Southwest Ambulance but was later taken to the MGRMC by his parents, according to Allred. After his initial treatment in the Emergency Room, he was airlifted to the University Medical Center-University Campus in Tucson where he was treated and released, according to a UMC public information officer.
