CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — Harrison County Emergency Squad employees have received $100,000 in year-end bonuses.
The Exponent-Telegram said that’s equal to nearly 40 percent of the $255,000 the agency reaped from a vital services tax levy this year.
Board president Tim Miley says the bonuses are common practice, based on seniority, attendance and attitude. They were granted unanimously.
County Commissioner Ron Watson confirmed the amount.
Miley says the service had $4.1 million in revenue last year and currently has no debt.
The newspaper filed requests for agency funding details under the Freedom of Information Act, but they were denied.
An attorney says the private nonprofit is exempt from public records laws.
Miley says the 65 employees are the state’s second- or third-best paid EMTs and paramedics, but he declined to provide specifics.
