NASHUA, N.H. — A man who stabbed an off-duty EMT to death two years ago will be sentenced to at least 30 years in prison Wednesday morning.
The Nashua Telegraph reported that Matthew Packer, now 21, pleaded guilty to stabbing Paul Frontiero, 27, 16 times on Oct. 9, 2011, after Frontiero rushed to the rescue of his two female roommates — who had already been attacked by Packer following a confrontation.
When Frontiero came to the women’s rescue, Packer punched at him multiple times while holding an open folding knife, according to the report.
Parker, who was charged with first-degree murder, accepted a plea deal that could see him spend the rest of his life in prison, according to the report.
Frontiero’s family and friends, including the two women Parker stabbed, intend to give statements at the sentencing hearing, according to the report.
“It’s been a nightmare that we’re reliving all over again, but we’re relieved that Matt Packer will be behind bars and he can do this to no other family what he has done to ours,” Cathy Frontiero, Paul’s mother, said, reading from her statement at last month’s hearing. “He’s obviously a very troubled young man.”
