Ohio firefighter-paramedic to compete for UFC title

Stipe Miocic will battle for the UFC heavyweight champion title in Brazil

CLEVELAND — Stipe Miocic isn’t a typical firefighter-paramedic. He’s also an internationally ranked UFC fighter.

Firefighter-paramedic Stipe Miocic is the number one contender for the UFC heavyweight champion title, and will be competing for it in Brazil on Saturday, reported WKYC.

“I’m from Cleveland, baby; that’s how we do it here,” Miocic said. “We’re hard workers.”

Although Miocic is a former North American Allied Fight Series Heavyweight Champion and Golden Gloves boxing titlist, he is also dedicated to protecting and serving his community.

“My whole life, I always wanted to help people and be there for people. I can still work out, can still help people,” Miocic said.

Miocic will fight against Fabricio Werdum after earning the top contending slot when he beat former UFC titleholder Andrei Arlovski in January.

“I’m a fast heavyweight. I push the pace. I hit hard. I’m good on the ground, and I’m not going to give him any opportunities … I’m going to bring the belt back home to Cleveland,” Miocic said.
