CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — A Cuyahoga Falls firefighter/paramedic is being praised for an unexpected act of kindness.

After responding to an emergency call Tuesday morning and treating an older man who was injured while mowing his lawn, firefighter/paramedic Dan Grimm took it upon himself to finish cutting the grass.

A neighbor snapped a photo of Grimm, in uniform, mowing the Grant Avenue property and sent it to Mayor Don Walters, who then posted the picture on Facebook and applauded the city employee’s desire to go “above and beyond the call of duty.”

For Grimm, 31, who has been with the department for more than six years, it was an easy decision to make.

“It reminded me of my grandparents and my parents and what I would want somebody to do for them,” he said Wednesday. “I thought I might as well help these nice people out and finish up their lawn so he doesn’t have to strain or anything like that for the rest of the day and and worry about three or four strips unmowed and the neighbors looking at him funny.”

Grimm estimated that the resident had already mowed about 75% of the lawn so it took him only five or 10 minutes to finish the rest. He also bagged and emptied the grass clippings.

He said it’s the first time that he has mowed grass while out on an emergency call.

Without disclosing the specific medical emergency, Grimm said the resident is doing fine.

The mayor’s Facebook post prompted a slew of comments praising the firefighter/paramedic.

“That is so awesome!” Melanie A. Holstein wrote in response to the post. “Kudos to that firefighter. We have the best first responders in our City!”
