Empire State Building lights tower to celebrate EMS Week

The Empire State Building, in partnership with the New York City Fire Department, was illuminated yellow, white and blue for three nights starting May 14 in celebration of EMS Week 2010.

NEW YORK — The Empire State Building, in partnership with the New York City Fire Department, will be illuminated in yellow, white and blue Monday night in celebration of National EMS Week 2011, which began yesterday, according to a statement by the New York Fire Department.

EMS Week is an annual week-long series of events designed to promote public safety among all New Yorkers, attract potential EMS recruits and celebrate the life-saving efforts of more than 3,000 members of FDNY’s Emergency Medical Service. Other events include the Second Chance Brunch, where rescuers are reunited with the people whose lives they saved in the past year, on Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at the FDNY Academy on Randall’s Island and an EMS Health Fair and Competition to be held on Metrotech Commons in Brooklyn on Thursday, May 19.
