Patient accused of punching, tackling Dallas paramedic

The man got angry after medics said he didn’t require a transport

A man is accused of attacking and injuring a Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic who was tending to him in downtown overnight.

Emergency crews initially responded to a medical call and found the man about 1:50 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Main and St. Paul Streets.

The man got angry when the paramedics told him he did not need to be transported to a hospital, Dallas police spokesman Demarquis Black said in an email. He punched one of the paramedics and tackled him to the ground.

The second paramedic assisted the other and held the suspect down until officers arrived.

The first paramedic suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Pilo Tienda, on a charge of assault of a public servant. He was transported to Lew Sterrett Jail.
