Concealed weapon policy discussed at Ohio county EMS meeting

Officials believe carrying a weapon would allow EMS providers to protect themselves on the job

HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio — County EMTs met Wednesday to discuss the possibility of carrying concealed weapons on the job.

“We do respond to calls that can become unpredictable at times,” Bowerston EMS Captain Adam Reardon told WTOV9.

Reardon said many of the calls that escalated quickly could have been prevented.

Doug Crabtree, president of the Harrison County EMS Association, said during Wednesday meeting they discussed the possible conceal carry on the county’s ambulances. The association has currently a strict no carry policy.

“We just want to be able to protect ourselves, our crew and our patients,” Reardon said.

The EMS association, the Fireman’s Association, the county commissioners and prosecutor will be involved in the decision, which should be made in March.
