Two armed men demanded the EMS crew’s cellphones and told them to run

UMGUNGUNDLOVU, South Africa — An ambulance was hijacked and burned Monday in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.

An EMS crew was responding to a call for a maternity patient, but when they arrived at the location they were met by two men who demanded their cellphones at gunpoint and told them to run, The Citizen reported.

When the two EMS providers left the ambulance, the two individuals set it on fire.

“While we are relieved that our crew members are safe and have been referred to Employee Assistance Program for counselling; we nonetheless decry the destruction of this much valuable and needed medical emergency vehicle,” province Health Minister Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo said.
