NEW YORK — An all-female crew of about 40 Orthodox Jewish EMTs will now provide a much-needed service in a Brooklyn community.
Member Rachel Freier told FOX News that the group was formed to serve Hasidic woman who are uncomfortable with Hasidic male EMTs when in physically vulnerable situations, such as child birth.
All members of the Ezras Nashim EMT Service are meet basic certification, and some serve in other responder positions, such as volunteer firefighters.
Because not all the women have vehicles, the organization has a fly car system, where those on call get a car equipped with an air horn and lights. The EMT arrives on scene, and meets up with a private ambulance company that Ezras Nashim has a contract with.
The female responders will cover Brooklyn’s Borough Park, and hope to expand the organization to other cities and towns, and even Israel.
