JUAREZ, Mexico — Juárez police arrested a pair of paramedics accused of stealing a dead man’s wallet and arrested suspected gun dealers and gang members in separate cases, officials said.
Two paramedics were arrested at the scene of a fatal shooting Saturday night on Yepomera street in southeast Juárez, a police news release states. Officers arriving at the scene surprised the paramedics while they were allegedly stealing the wallet of a dead man lying on the ground, authorities said.
Maria Cristina R.S., 25, and her partner, Victor Manuel D.V., 19, who are volunteer paramedics for the Estars ambulance service, were arrested on theft and concealment charges, police said. Volunteer paramedics respond to emergency calls in Juárez.
Ambulance company officials told the Diario de Juárez that the arrested paramedics were innocent and that it was policy to only approach a scene after it was secured by police.
Full names were not disclosed per rules regarding the release of names of crime suspects.
Sureños, Mexicles arrested
Two reputed Sureños gang members were arrested on firearms charges early Monday after police allegedly found a 9 mm handgun and a .380 revolver in a car, officials said.
Margarito R.C., 53, and Saul M.P., 38, allegedly told police that they were armed because they were on their way to purchase marijuana and crystal methamphetamine outside a nightclub but had previously argued with the drug dealer because he had raised his prices, police said.
Luis Fernando G.V. allegedly told police that he was previously in prison for killing two gang rivals in separate shootings in 2009.
Firearms dealers busted
Two suspected firearms dealers were arrested Monday morning when they were allegedly on their way to meet a buyer in a parking lot of Avenida Tecnologico, Juárez police said.
Six rifles, four handguns, bulletproof vests, tactical gear and ammunition were seized by police after they stopped a Dodge Durango, a news release states. The vehicle matched the description given by two gun buyers who had been recently arrested.
The men arrested, identified only as Alejandro R.B., 19, and Manuel Antonio K.O., 20, allegedly told police that they were involved in the illegal sale and purchase of firearms for criminal groups, police said. They had allegedly sold at least five rifles and two handguns this month to clients contacted via Facebook.
