7 plead not guilty in Ohio EMS theft case

They’re suspected of selling $500,000 worth of ambulances and EMS property between 2008 to 2012, and using the money for something other than the nonprofit squad

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The seven Harrison Township Emergency Medical Services members accused of misspending $500,000 in funds designated for the nonprofit pleaded not guilty Wednesday to 30 charges including theft and money laundering.

Brian Hatfield, Robert Hatfield, Beverly Hatfield, Mary Randles, Terry Randles, Heather Price and Richard Bennett, all of whom served on the board of the Harrison Township organization at some point from 2008 to 2012, were arrested on suspicion they sold ambulances and other EMS property then used the money gained for something other than the nonprofit EMS squad, according to Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office.

The charges, filed this month, involved accusations of money laundering, theft, falsification, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and obstructing justice ranging from first-degree to a fifth-degree felonies.
