DRACUT, Mass. — Friends and family of a local EMT from Dracut who suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a motorcycle crash in July are holding a fundraiser for his recovery and rehabilitation.

Richard “Boo” Bourgeois, 44, of 38A Janice Ave., suffered a brain bleed and severe head injury due to a July 9 accident at 2:24 p.m. on Bridge Street (Route 39) in Pelham, N.H.

According to a police report, Bourgeois was riding his motorcycle when he skidded and hit a guardrail. The impact tossed him from his bike.

He was taken to Saints Medical Center and then flown via medical helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was then transferred to Whittier Rehab Hospital, but has suffered a life-altering brain injury, according his family.

Bourgeois, who has worked for multiple emergency medical service companies throughout the Merrimack Valley, has been unable to work since his accident.

As a result his friend and family are holding a fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Lowell Elks Club at 40 Old Ferry Road. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and go toward defraying Bourgeois’ rehabilitation costs.
