STEVENS POINT, Wis. — A dispatcher saved a woman’s life whose vehicle accelerated out of control after the brakes broke.

Dispatcher Cody Smiley received a call from a panicked woman who said her brakes were no longer working and her vehicle was not slowing down, reported WAOW.

Prior to working as a dispatcher, Smiley worked in an auto part store and was able to provide some industry insight.

“Ma’am, can you switch your vehicle into neutral,” Smiley asked her.

Shortly after the switch, the woman’s vehicle began to slow down.

“Every day, it never stops in here, we have calls all the time,” Smiley said. “I don’t think I should get the recognition I did, I was just doing my job.”
