SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — The Summit County Ambulance Service (SCAS) will use a $148,870 grant from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to help implement a new emergency medical dispatch system, officials announced in a recent release.
The grant, matched by the ambulance service and Summit County government, will also help cover the cost of two new ambulances. “It really has been increasingly difficult to fund capital projects such as vehicle replacement and, to some degree, operations under our current funding model, and so the EMTS Provider grants have really helped us stay on track,” SCAS director Marc Burdick said.
The funding will help put a new internationally recognized dispatch system in place at the Summit County Communications Center in Frisco. Dispatchers will receive training in handling emergency medical calls and using a new sophisticated software system that will help them quickly interrogate the call, determine its relative priority and send out emergency responders.
