PITTSBURGH — A 6-year-old boy remained in critical condition Monday, a day after he was pinned under a car with his 4-year-old brother behind the wheel in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood, according to police.

Police and paramedics responded to Johnston Avenue about 7 p.m. Sunday for a report of a child struck by a car and pinned under it, according to Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

Police arrived and found the car partway on the sidewalk with the front end still in the road, Toler said.

Paramedics had to lift the vehicle and remove the front passenger-side wheel to free the child.

He was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in critical condition.

Toler said the injured boy’s 4-year-old brother wanted to go to Chuck E. Cheese and got a hold of the car keys.

The two got in the car, and the younger child was able to get the car into reverse. The 6-year-old boy fell out and became pinned.
