NEW YORK — An FDNY EMT made sure a baby and his mother were safe after a subway train derailed in Harlem.
NY Daily News reported that EMT Tuanika Brown carried a crying baby to safety and made sure his mother was OK during the confusion of the crash.
“When we got down to the platform there were tons of patients, there was a mother in distress her baby was hot and crying,” Brown said. “We took him upstairs to cool down. The mother has a history of asthma and we treated her too.”
The baby suffered from heat exhaustion and was wearing only a diaper when Brown reached him.
“We gave the baby and mother oxygen. The baby and her are doing fine,” Brown said. “They were in the first car of the derailed train.”
The mother and child were treated at the hospital and later released.
